The Marine Special Action Force (SAF) was designed to give the Fleet more mobility in Marine units for ground warfare purposes. While standard Marines units were good for traditional combat roles, the SAF fills the Fleet's need for a Special Forces unit that handles a wide range of duties when a SNTU Team is not available, including:

Because of their role, SAF units are at least Platoon (42 Marines) sized with Company (3 Platoons) being the largest available command structure on any given Fleet vessel. SAF units ware often times assigned to assist Fleet Rescue Guard units when engaged in VBSS operations.
