Background

A Bridge Officer is a title given to an officer of the Kingdom's Navy whose sole purpose is to manage, control, and/or command something on a warship's bridge, normally called a Command Subordinate. Normally a Bridge Officer is a seasoned Naval Officer of the rank of at least Lieutenant (Junior Grade) and no higher then Lieutenant.

To be elected as a Bridge Officer is considered an honor within the Kingdom's Navy circles. Typically Bridge Officers are the next ones to be selected for Lieutenant Commander (Second Officer) or Command Crew (see King II-class Battleship) positions aboard a warship. Typically, Bridge Officers are in their positions for no more then 3 years before being promoted to Lieutenant Commander or Command Crew, usually aboard a smaller warship first to gain experience.***

There is a great un-trust between Bridge Officers and that of officers and crew below them within the Kingdom's Navy. Because of the Kingdom of Jod's Monarchy-styled government, many Bridge Officers (especially Junior Grade Lieutenants) inherit the positions because of a matter of birth right being a noble and not necessarily because of ability to command and/or test scores in the academy.

In some cases, like a certain infamous Bridge Officer Bob, you can get stuck at the position because of having no luck at all.

***Chefs, Quartermasters, Maintenance Officers, Controller Officers, Naval/Army/Starfighter/Munitions/Traffic Officer/Emergency Control Officers, Wing Auxiliary Officers, Medical Management Officers, Master-at-Arms, Political Officer, Diplomatic Officer, and Fleet/Army/HRI Intelligence Officers are unable to promote to Second Officer positions within the Kingdom's Navy. They can promote up in their own field of expertise, but cannot command a warship.
